Welcome to Widener University's Institute for Graduate Clinical Psychology. We hope that you will learn about our Doctor of Psychology program and affiliated internship. This doctoral program began at Hahnemann University in 1970 and is one of the oldest accredited Psy.D. programs in the United States.
The program transferred to Widener University in 1989. Both the doctoral program and the internship are approved by the American Psychological Association (750 First Street NE, Washington, DC 20002-4242, 202-336-5979). All of our students proceed through our internship. The fact that the internship is embedded in the doctoral program enables continuity of training.
Our doctoral program provides our students with excellent generalist training and the opportunity to establish a pre-specialization in a variety of areas by pursuing an area of concentration within the Institute, by matriculating in a joint degree program, or both. the program embracesa scholar-practitioner model.
Students are in a placement from their first year in the program, are in a different placement each of the five years, and are given abundant opportunities to integrate theory, research, and practice throughout their training. You will see many examples of this integration in the accomplishments of our students and graduates featured on this web page.
The Institute for Graduate Clinical psychology also has a great deal to offer the community of mental professionals and the community. The Post-Graduate Center offers a plenitude of continuing education offerings throughout the year.
Annually, the Post-Graduate Center has the Schulman Symposium featuring the work of a prominent psychoanalytic thinker, the Annual Personality Assessment Symposium, a conference on the treatment of victims of child sexual abuse, and a workshop on ethics.
