The mural has been designed to reflect the journey of the spirit.
The large tree in the right corner is representative of the foundation of spirituality with all branches coming from a single trunk. Although the tree is old and gnarled, it is budding, representative of the budding of spirituality. It also represents knowledge, an understanding of ourselves in unison with the world around us.
The natural light from the window will cast shadows on the elements of the painting to join the outside to the inside. The light in the painting will be reflected strongly in the clouds to highlight our own ability to reflect the light. In the painting, the sun will have just risen to illuminate the sky and represent the promise of a new day.
The stream that runs through the painting is symbolic of the life giving water which is necessary for human survival. It not only connects each element of the painting, it flows between them. There will be places of calm as well as areas of turbulence.
The bridge is symbolic in its joining of the two sides of the bank. Its stone foundation will have the 18 symbols of the Interfaith Center "carved" into them. It represents union.
Throughout the painting, there will be hints of wild rose bushes representing free flowing love, the ever-present gift from God.
