Archives Online Catalog

1. Use Internet Explorer when searching the Archives Catalog.
   
2. To retrieve the most results, begin your search using a single keyword; Each time you add more terms, you retrieve fewer results.
   
3. When you use more than one keyword, the database will automatically add an AND between the words.  Example: photographs band finds any records that have both the words photographs AND band somewhere in the record.
   
4. If you type words in quotation marks, the database recognizes them as a phrase. Example: “Pennsylvania Military Academy” will bring up only those records that include this exact phrase.
   
5. Browse the list of subject headings to find additional or more relevant keywords.
   
6. You will get a Results List of Archival Boxes that contain documents and/or photographs related to your topic.
   From the results you obtain, create a list of Archival boxes that you want to explore. (Remember to include the full box name and number.)
   
7. You must schedule an appointment with an archivist at Widener University in order to view the materials that you find. Call (610) 499-4591 or (610) 499-4376 to make an appointment.
