Widener University

Widener's instrumental ensembles rehearse weekly throughout the year. Membership is not limited to Music Scholarship students; ensembles are open to the student body at large.

Wind Ensemble
The Wind Ensemble is a standard collegiate concert band. The Wind Ensemble rehearses twice a week.


Jazz Ensemble
The Jazz Ensemble is built on the model of the contemporary Jazz Orchestra. The repertoire is based on compositions from the libraries of Thad Jones, Woody Herman, Maynard Ferguson, Oliver Nelson, John Vanore, and others. Improvisation workshops, and use of the recording studio round out the Jazz Ensemble experience.

Brass Ensemble
The standard brass quintet instrumentation is the core of our Brass Ensemble. The quintet is augmented to suit the performance requirements of the particular pieces being played.


String Chamber Ensemble
The Chamber Ensemble, which is open to students of all levels, emphasizes ensemble playing. Student groups (piano four-hand, piano trio, string trio, string quartet, etc.) vary according to instrumentation and ability. Performance opportunities include studio recitals, chamber concerts, and mini-chamber recitals. For more information contact Dr. Mara Parker, Director of String Performance.

Students in any of the performing ensembles are eligible for academic credit for participation.


Pep Band
The Pep Band is a student-led organization for providing music at football games. Music played includes pop and rock. The Pep Band performs only in the stands. Membership in the Pep Band is not limited to Music program students.

Due to its student-run nature, there is no academic credit given for participation in the Pep Band.
