MUSIC DEPARTMENT

Widener's music program is unique in that it is comprised of students who are majoring in fields of study other than music. Many students have made music an important part of their lives through years of hard work and personal commitment. Your musical growth need not end with high school graduation simply because you have elected to major in another career area.

Widener's instrumental ensembles rehearse weekly throughout the year. Performance opportunities include:  football games, recitals, and concerts.

Our professional recording facilities allow students to assess their progress. CD recordings of recent performances are available.

Instrumental ensembles include:

  • Wind Ensemble
  • Jazz Ensemble
  • String Chamber Ensemble
  • Brass Ensemble
  • Pep Band

Students may also parpticipate in a Choral Music program including the Widener Chorale and the Gospel Choir.

MUSIC SCHOLARSHIPS

Freshman can apply for music scholarships of $2,000, which are awarded yearly. The scholarship is renewable throughout the four-year course of study at Widener. The Music program is designed to allow development of musical ability through performance and private study while majoring in another field. Awards are determined by an interview and audition with the Director of Music.

Academic Credit

Students in any of the performing ensembles are eligible to receive academic credit for their participation.  These credits also count towards the performing requirement in the Fine Arts major or minor program.

Due to its nature as a student-led activity, there is no academic credit for the Pep Band.
