Widener University President Dr. Julie E. Wollman has been elected to serve on the Board of Directors of Pennsylvania Campus Compact.

The nonprofit member organization of 57 college and university presidents is focused on civic and community engagement across the Commonwealth. The organization’s values encompass leadership, service, collaboration and more.

Members of the Board of Directors promote, guide and support the work and mission of the organization, which seeks to enhance the capacity of campuses and communities to educate students for civic engagement to advance a healthy, just and democratic society. The organization places AmericaCorps VISTA members at colleges and universities across Pennsylvania to bridge campus and community in economic opportunity, education, and support for veterans and military families. Its work is rooted in the belief that higher education is linked to the public good, and it should nurture global, citizen leaders.

“I am delighted to have been elected to the Pennsylvania Campus Compact Board of Directors. I look forward to contributing to the work of this worthwhile organization,” Wollman said. “Widener is a national leader in civic engagement. We are committed to creating transformative experiences with, and for, our students so that they may lead in a way that advances knowledge, social justice, and well-being in the world. We ensure our civic engagement work is framed by a focus on solving global problems. Widener is a natural partner to Campus Compact’s objectives, and I am honored to take on this new role.”

Wollman’s term on the 11-member board runs through 2020.
