Widener University partners with City of Chester to provide discounted tuition for city workers

Widener University announced today it will offer all city of Chester, Pa. employees discounted tuition for programming offered through its Center for Continuing Studies.

Under an agreement signed by Widener University President Julie E. Wollman, Widener Senior Vice President for Administration and Finance Joseph Baker, Widener Director of Special Programs, Outreach, and Development Margaret Place, Chester Mayor Thaddeus Kirkland and Chester Chief Financial Officer Nafis Nichols, the agreement offers city employees, their spouses and dependents:

The documents were signed during a ceremony at Chester City Hall this morning. The discounted tuition is available to the city’s 300 employees, their spouses and dependents.

Programs eligible for the discount include associate’s degrees in six concentrations, bachelor’s degrees in eight concentrations and Master of Education degrees in three concentrations. Some of the concentrations include allied health, general studies, legal studies, criminal justice, liberal arts and more.

“Widener University is pleased to extend this educational benefit to the city of Chester. As neighbors, we are proud to share these academic opportunities with the men and women who contribute to the city’s progress through their work in public service,” President Wollman said.

“This new partnership is a pivotal stepping stone, not just for the employees but the entire City of Chester. One of my goals in leading this administration is to ensure that we are able to serve our constituents to the best of our abilities. Widener University has helped to create a medium where our employees are able to better themselves through higher education, thus manifesting into ways that will better serve our community,” Mayor Kirkland added.
