Widener-Sponsored Reading Series Kicks off Fourth Season Sept. 21

Widener University

Widener University is co-sponsoring the State Street Reading Series.

Widener University and the Media Arts Council will kick off the fourth season of their co-sponsored State Street Reading Series on Thursday, Sept. 21 from 7 to 9 p.m. The first featured authors are Chris Ludovici, the Judith Stark Award winner for fiction and drama in 2009 and author of the novel The Minors, and Marissa Johnson Valenzuela, a teacher at Community College of Philadelphia who was selected to a list of "Who's Next: Arts" in Philadelphia.

The State Street Reading Series is held every other month at the Media Arts Center Gallery at 609 W. State Street in Media, Pennsylvania. The events are an opportunity to hear distinguished local writers read their work in a friendly art gallery setting, as well as socialize and network. The reading is free to attend, and reservations are not required. Free snacks will be served.

For the second year, undergraduates from local universities, including Widener, will have the opportunity to showcase their original work on Jan. 18.

The full schedule is as follows:

Sept. 21: Chris Ludovici and Marissa Johnson Valenzuela

Nov. 9: T. Nicole Cirone and Viet Dinh

Jan. 18: Undergraduate Night

March 15: Sam Gridley and Jasmine Combs
