Recent graduates of the Center for Experience Management in Tourism and Hospitality were given a career survey, and among those who responded, 100 percent of 2015 graduates and 94 percent of 2014 graduates reported that they secured a full-time position within six months of graduation from the Center. The students secured positions in food service management, restaurant management, hotel management, casino management and country club/private club management at a variety of area establishments, including Aramark, Hyatt Hotels, Marriott Hotels, The Union League of Philadelphia and Philadelphia Country Club.

Dr. Katia Ciampa, Dr. William Merchant and Dr. Zora Wolfe, all assistant professors in the Center for Education, are working with the Ridley School District to analyze and support their district professional development program. To support this work, they applied for an Institute of Education Sciences (IES) Researcher-Practitioner Partnerships in Education Research Grant. Wolfe has also been working with the Penrose School, in the School District of Philadelphia, to provide professional development to help the school develop curriculum and teaching strategies to become a project-based STEM school. She is working with colleagues in the College of Arts and Sciences and School of Engineering to coordinate a partnership for the Penrose School with the Heinz Wildlife Refuge.

Michael Dimino and Juliet Moringiello, professors at Commonwealth Law, presented at the annual Southeastern Association of Law Schools (SEALS) conference. Dimino presented both on the late Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia’s legacy and the first 25 years of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas’ tenure on the Supreme Court. Moringiello participated in the panel titled “Teaching Secured Transactions: Integrating Ethical/Professionalism Issues, Drafting Assignments and Learning Outcomes/Assessments.”

Derek Harzinski and Zachary Hill, both civil engineering majors, attended the Construction Institute of American Society of Civil Engineers Student Days conference this summer in Boston, where they were recognized for their work during a team competition. Students from across the country received invitations to attend the conference to take part in a bid package competition for a pedestrian bridge rehab project in the city. The students had 48 hours to complete a proposal, full cost estimate and timeline for the entire project. Once the bid package was completed, the students presented to some of the largest design firms: Kiewit, Turner and Skanska. Hill’s team came in second place, and Harzinski was recognized as one of the best presenters of the conference. Harzinski was even invited to attend the Construction Institute National Conference in March.
