      Public Stargazing Sessions Resume at Widener Observatory

      September through December 12 (see below)
      Where: Widener University Observatory, 5th floor, Kirkbride Hall on 17th & Walnut Streets in Chester, PA
      RSVP: Because space is limited, participants are encouraged to register in advance. To register, visit or call 610-499-4003.

      The Widener University Observatory has resumed its public stargazing sessions. All are invited to see the stars, planets, and other celestial wonders using the observatory’s 12- and 16-inch computerized reflecting telescopes. Widener astronomy professors, with assistance from undergraduate students, will be on hand to offer assistance.

      Upcoming stargazing sessions for the fall semester include Monday twilight viewings on Sept. 12, 19 and 26 from 8-9 p.m.;  Oct. 3, 10 and 17 from 7-8 p.m.; Nov. 7, 14, 21 and 28 from 6-7 p.m.; and Dec. 5 and 12 from 6-7 p.m. Friday evening sessions are also held the first Fridays of every month from 8-9 p.m. beginning Friday, Sept. 9.

      Widener-Sponsored Reading Series Kicks Off Third Season

      When: Thursday, September 15 from 7:00pm - 9:00pm
      Where: Media Arts Center Gallery, 609 W. State St., Media, PA 19063
      RSVP: The reading is free to attend, and reservations are not required.

      Widener University and the Media Arts Council will kick off the third season of their co-sponsored State Street Reading Series. The first featured authors who will share work are poet Cynthia Dewi Oka and poet and travel writer Eleanor Stanford. Although the event runs for two hours, each writer only reads for about 20 minutes; the rest of the time is set aside for socializing, networking, and book signing. The event is BYOB.

      The State Street Reading Series is held every other month.


      Sports Management Lunch and Learn

      When: Monday, September 19 from 12:00pm - 1:00pm
      Where: Lathem Hall
      RSVP: This event is free and open to the public. Registration is not required.

      The Sport Management Program within Widener’s School of Business Administration resumes its lunchtime speaker series. Two members of the Star Wars 501st Legion (an active community engagement fan group that raises money for Children's Hospital and civic organizations), will speak about organizational structure, branding, and corporate social responsibility.
