The Widener University Softball Team completed its most historic season this spring by winning its first Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth title and playing in the NCAA Regionals.

The magical run began when the team made its fourth consecutive appearance in the MAC Commonwealth Tournament on May 6. Senior Alexis Schengrund threw her first career no-hitter to lead the Pride to a 2-0 victory over Lebanon Valley in the opener, classmate Ally Horvath drove in the game-winning run and earned the win in the circle in the team's 9-6 triumph over Messiah, and Nicole Burt, another senior, provided the decisive hit to propel the program to a 4-3 win in the championship game against the Dutchmen to complete an undefeated weekend.

The team then headed to Cortland, New York for its first-ever NCAA Regional appearance beginning on May 12 in a pod that also included Messiah, Johnson & Wales and host SUNY Cortland. The Pride's success continued, as Schengrund hurled her second shutout of the postseason in a 3-0 victory over SUNY Cortland in the tournament opener. Horvath helped the team hold off Messiah by a 2-1 decision and extend the program's winning streak to five consecutive games before they lost their final game to SUNY Cortland.

The graduating senior class consisting of Liz Antonucci, Devin Coyne, Nicole Burt, Ally Horvath, Alexis Schengrund and Bree VanReenen helped the program win 105 games over the past four seasons, make an appearance in the conference tournament every year and set the program up for future success.
