      Women's Swimming and Volleyball Teams Receive Honors for Team GPAs

      Women’s Volleyball Team

      American Volleyball Coaches Association gives Widener its Team Academic Award.

      The Widener University Women's Swimming and Volleyball teams were both honored for academics this summer.

      The women's volleyball team was recognized by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) with its Team Academic Award. It is the fourth consecutive year the team has been recognized by the AVCA for its work in the classroom.

      The Pride compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.50 during the 2016-17 academic year. Widener is one of five MAC schools to be honored with the Team Academic Award. The award, which was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average (GPA) on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale.

      College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America names Widener Scholar All-Americans.

      The women's swimming team was recognized for its efforts in the classroom as the squad was honored by the College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) as Scholar All-Americans.

      The members of the Pride women's swimming team finished towards the top of NCAA Division III with a 3.48 combined GPA for the spring semester. They were one of eight Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) swimming and diving teams to be honored. In order to be eligible for the recognition, a team must post a combined GPA for the semester of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. A record 720 teams were honored during the most recent spring term.
