Six Student-Athletes Make Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Teams

Two-Time Inquirer Academic All-Area Team Honorees

Seniors Mikayla Ninos and Steve Gozur are on the list of Widener student-athletes named to the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Teams, both receiving the honor for the second time.

Six Widener University student-athletes were recently named to the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Team. Nominations and voting were done by the sports information offices at 30 institutions in the Philadelphia metropolitan area. Football’s Vince Char, Steve Gozur and Casey Kerschner; field hockey’s Mikayla Ninos; and volleyball’s Sabrina Barbieri were all recognized for their outstanding academic and athletic achievements. Gozur and Ninos earned the award for the second straight season.

With six honorees to date, Widener ties for third overall (and ties for first among NCAA Division III institutions) in the Philadelphia metropolitan area. Widener is in good company as Penn, Villanova and Haverford complete the list of schools to have at least six student-athletes receive the honor during the fall.
