      President's Message

      Welcome to Fall

      President Wollman

2017-18 promises to be an outstanding year

I love this time of year when the energy returns to campus! It is great to see the many familiar faces of students, faculty, and staff mingling with the newest members of our community, who are just beginning their Widener experience.

It was a full and wonderful first few weeks from meeting families and students brimming with anticipation on move-in day to hosting nearly 600 students, over the course of two weeks, at my home for picnic dinners. But my most gratifying moments were reading the first-day-of-class reflections of students in my Freshman Seminar: “After seeing the campus, I fell in love” and “I am at Widener because I love the family atmosphere. I wanted a school that made me feel like I was at a new home.” A third student wrote: “I liked how personal everything is” and yet another: “The professors, advisors and students are very welcoming and care about my future as much as I do.”

As our university family welcomes the class of 2021, I am excited to anticipate the myriad ways we can learn from, and grow with, our students this year. And I am excited to see how we will all work individually and together to make sure that our new students continue to feel the personal support and intellectual challenge that will keep them engaged, so that four years from now they will be Widener graduates.

      Welcome to fall 2017!

      With pride,
      Julie
