Spring Sports Gearing Up for New Season

      Women's Lacrosse

Women's lacrosse opens the home spring season with a contest against Neumann on Feb. 21 at Dixon Field.

As the Philadelphia area continues to bask in the glow of a Super Bowl victory, Widener student-athletes continue their preparation for the upcoming spring sports seasons.

Hard though it may be to believe as we slog through the last vestiges of cold weather, men’s lacrosse kicks off the spring sports season on Saturday when it travels to Salisbury to face the two-time defending national champions.

"We're excited about our chances in the conference this season," said men’s lacrosse head coach Jamie Lockard. "We believe we have the right mix of talent and leadership and hope to challenge for the top spot in the always competitive MAC Commonwealth."

Women’s lacrosse opens the home spring slate with a contest against Neumann on Feb. 21 at Dixon Field.

"We're looking forward to the 2018 season," said women’s lacrosse Head Coach Kate Slade. "We have a group of seasoned veterans and promising newcomers who will all play a role as we navigate both a strong non-conference schedule and a challenging MAC slate. This should be an exciting year for Widener women's lacrosse."

Baseball gets its schedule going with three games in two days, starting with a doubleheader against Immaculata on Feb. 24 and then a trip to Shenandoah on Feb. 25.

The season and defense of the MAC Commonwealth Championship for softball gets underway on Mar. 5 when it travels to Kissimmee, Florida to compete in the Diamond 9 Games, starting with games against Muskingum and Ohio Northern. Overall the Pride will play six games in Central Florida.

Softball is one of three teams that will be making a spring trip to the Sunshine State. Baseball will play seven games in Winter Haven from March 3-9 and women’s lacrosse takes on Elizabethtown in Clearwater on March 6.
