Join prominent historians for a daylong symposium exploring the rationale for the Great War, its impact, legacy, and Widener University’s connections to the conflict, which ended 100 years ago.

November 9, 2018
8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Widener University
Chester, PA 19013

Widener University has a deep and proud military tradition stretching back 160 years. Alumni of the university, and its predecessor institutions, have served in every war America has been involved. During World War I, approximately 300 brave alumni of Pennsylvania Military College served their nation.

On this 100th anniversary of the Armistice of the war to end all wars, Widener University, Widener University’s Department of History, and the Pennsylvania Military College Museum will host a symposium that explores America’s entry in the conflict, the Franco-American alliance, and the post-war occupation of the Rhineland. World War I posters, created to encourage American support for the war, will also be on display. The symposium will conclude with a reception in the Pennsylvania Military College Museum (located on campus), which features a special exhibition on PMC’s involvement in the Great War.

Widener continues to honor its military roots today, and is proud to offer an Army ROTC program.

  • Symposium is free and open to the public, but attendees must register here
