2008 Pre-Orientation programs

Three Pre-Orientation programs are available to Widener University's freshmen this year. These optional programs are targeted only to incoming freshmen so they get to know like-minded peers with interests to be leaders and involved early in their campus.

Facilitators

Each program will be led by upperclassmen student leaders and supported by administrators and faculty.

This added support grounds freshmen participants with the opportunity to establish university connections at multiple levels before classes begin!

Goals

Goals of these programs include:

  • Create a personal network
  • Assist with transition to college life
  • Meet Widener University Leaders
  • Learn about Widener's perspective on Civic Engagement and Social Responsibility
  • Learn technical and personal skills
  • Reflect on program experiences using a journal
  • Articulate effective communication
  • Participate in group processing sessions
  • Learn general leadership skills

Commuter and Resident Students

These programs are open to resident and commuter students, and all of their meals are included in each program.

  • Commuter students will be able to participate in all program activities.
  • Resident students can fully move into their room and reside in their room throughout their Pre-Orientation program. Resident Assistants will already be present in the halls and will be on-duty during evening hours.

Cost

Each Pre-Orientation program has its own costs covering all activities, meals, and on-campus living expenses for resident students.

Participation Requirements

Space is limited and participation requires completion of a brief application and acceptance into the program. These are optional programs and do not carry academic credit.

Program Duration

All Pre-Orientation programs end on campus before the Fall Orientation program begins on Monday, September 1, 2008. Pre-Orientation programs are not a replacement for Fall Orientation.

Fall Orientation

Fall Orientation is an academic requirement. Therefore, attendance is taken at many of the programs. All Fall Orientation programs and events have no admission fee.

Missing the majority of Fall Orientation programs without an excused absence will require participation in a make-up session at the expense of the student, and judicial action may be applied.

Pre-Orientation programs are OPTIONAL and targeted only to incoming freshmen so they get to know like-minded peers with interests to be leaders and involved early in their campus.
