Certified Teachers
The Widener Partnership Charter School will recruit teachers who enthusiastically embrace the guiding philosophy that teachers will drive the curriculum and its priorities. Only teachers who hold appropriate Pennsylvania teaching credentials will be employed by the Widener Partnership Charter School as primary classroom instructors.
A Bachelor's Degree is Required for All Instructional Staff
All instructional staff will hold at least a Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university. Additionally, applicants for teaching positions at the school must demonstrate above average ability to:
- interact positively and enthusiastically with students in an under-resourced urban learning setting;
- display comfort and confidence as a teacher in a student-centered environment;
- articulate their philosophy of teaching and their role as a learning facilitator;
- provide curricular instruction that is consistent with the school's mission statement and general instructional and operational philosophy;
- display creativity and an ability to draw upon a variety of resources to implement the curriculum;
- thrive in an environment which fosters collaboration and team teaching;
- communicate expectations to students;
- adjust to different student learning styles and needs;
- write interdisciplinary lesson plans and curriculum units;
- evaluate their own professional development through ongoing self-reflection; and
- design an original curriculum unit project as part of the interview process.
Emphasizing Teacher Ownership of the Curriculum
School faculty will design and implement a professional development plan that includes self-reflection, retreats and planning weeks. School faculty will also develop non-curricular policies and participate in decisions about issues such as school uniforms, homework and social events.
