Parent's Commitment

During the second interview, parents and caregivers will be asked to sign a pledge of their involvement in and support of the school’s guiding philosophy and goals.  This pledge will include a commitment to a minimum of four hours of service to the school per year in any of a variety of capacities, such as appearing as a guest speaker, organizing a fundraising activity, serving refreshments at school functions, or participating in the classroom or the library as an aide. The parental pledge will also contain a commitment to being involved in their child’s homework, including reviewing and signing off on homework each evening.

Additionally, parents and caregivers will agree to attend parent-teacher conferences and to be reachable by telephone throughout all hours of the day or to provide the names of individuals who can be contacted when they are unavailable.  Parents will agree to follow-up on the recommendations of counselors, teachers, and the Interdisciplinary Resource Teams in a prompt manner. As part of their school support, parents and caregivers will agree to attend school functions such as plays, concerts, back-to-school nights and Family Day.

Parents and caregivers of the Widener Partnership Charter School students will agree to promote a healthy lifestyle, including personal hygiene, good nutritional habits, and commitment to a drug-free environment. Under the recruitment plan described in the previous section, community outreach teams from Widener’s Social Work Consultation Service will work with families potentially interested in the school to assist with all aspects of the admissions process.
