Civic Engagement
Our civic mission is at the heart of everything we do.
As early as freshmen year, you’ll apply what you’re learning in the classroom to hands-on service projects that address real-world issues. Choose from our rich menu of co-curricular experiences and resources, including Alternative Spring Break, Community Fellows and Engineers without Borders.
Widener partners with service organizations such as Habitat for Humanity, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, and the national service fraternity, Alpha Phi Omega on community development projects around the world.
Through civic engagement you’ll develop key 21st century skills in critical thinking, collaboration and socially-responsible leadership.
We Live and Breathe Service
- Widener’s Greek organizations completed more than 2500 hours of service in 2010-2011.
- 75 percent of Widener students participate in community service or volunteer activities.
- Widener ranked 19th nationally on Newsweek’s list of service-minded colleges.
- 73 percent of Widener seniors have worked collaboratively with their classmates outside of class, compared to 59 percent of seniors nationwide.
Through our civic engagement programs, undergraduate and graduate students engage with local communities in Chester, greater Philadelphia, and around the world.
