COMMUNITY-HEALTH NURSING
The Community-Health Nursing (CHN) Master's option provides an opportunity for a professional nurse to prepare for a clinical nurse specialist role in a wide range of settings which include, among others, home health, public health, hospice, schools, occupational health, parish nursing and primary care settings.
The CHN option prepares the student for the role of advanced clinician or educator to meet the health needs of individuals, families and groups, as well as the medical underserved population in general. The CHN clinical specialist graduate is prepared to assume a leadership role in the rapidly changing health care arena.
Clinical placements for students are selected as recommended by the Association of Community Health Educators (ACHNE) to provide students with skills in the development, review, and writing of grants, as well as the assessment and evaluation of currently grant funded programs.
These skills are essential for CHN graduates in the unique health needs of population change, their restrictions in reimbursement continue to tighten, and agencies need to pursue grant funds in order to continue to provide services to their clients. A 17 credit PM certificate option is available. Credits required may vary depending upon prior educational preparation.
