The Widener University Student Nurses’Association took top honors at the Student Nurses’ Association of Pennsylvania Annual Convention in November garnering the Chapter Excellence Award and 10 individual scholarships for chapter members.The Chapter Excellence Award is presented to those chapters whose hard work and dedication demonstrate versatility in their programs and activities that ultimately enhance their members’participation. Chapters are judged based ontheir participation at chapter meetings andchapter-sponsored events, community projects and fundraising activities, and retention and recruitment of chapter members. In the past year, the chapter participated in or sponsored several community service projectsincluding blood pressure screenings, health fairs, and fundraising efforts for select communityorganizations. In addition to its community service efforts, the chapter holds an annual Welcome BackLuncheon for nursing students and faculty, and an annual ball for students and faculty. The Widener Student Nurses’ Association is the largest student chapter of the National Student Nurses Association in the state of Pennsylvania and one of the top 10 in the country. More than 100 students attend monthly meetings.
In addition to Chapter Excellence Honors, 10 students earned scholarships to help them pay for their education. Scholarship recipients included: senior Evelyn Christy, freshman Sarah Denny, senior Rachel Hartstein, freshman Sharon Jones, senior Ashley Ladson, senior Samantha Mulfino, freshman Michelle Raia, freshman Gabrielle Sees, junior Carrie Smith, and freshman Megan Sweeney.
