fall New Student orientation

Welcome to Widener University!

We are excited for your arrival. In just a few short weeks, you’ll be on the campus of Widener University, taking your first steps as a student. To better prepare you for life at Widener, the Student Affairs division is pleased to welcome your participation in the 2008 Fall New Student Orientation program.

The fall orientation program will have dramatic programming designed to help bond you to the university and encourage you to feel part of the community. Fall orientation will last three full days, focusing on different elements of collegiate life each day.

Check-in for all freshman and select transfer students will take place on Labor Day, September 1, 2008, establishing the primary audience as new students and family members. You will be welcomed to the university community by President Harris and then join in a farewell social with your family members. The day will then continue with interactive ice breakers, a brief explanation of university expectations, and interactive evening entertainment.

The second day of fall orientation is aimed at educating you on student affairs initiatives, including the judicial process, residence life, campus safety, and academic integrity. You will have the opportunity to attend first year workshops, interacting with many members of the university staff, who serve as valuable resources throughout your college experience. Other sessions will familiarize you with campus surroundings and promote keener understandings of student responsibility.

Fall orientation will end with a focus on academic life. Convocation will begin the day’s events to mark the formal entrance to collegiate life. Following convocation, you will meet with your academic advisor.  The day will then continue with activities and events that encourage you to embrace Widener University as your new home.

Upon check-in you will receive a schedule for the fall orientation program. The "New Student Check-In" web pages, see link below, explain the check-in process and other relevant information to help transition you to the university.

Fall New Student Orientation is considered an academic requirement for new students as this program initiates your status as a “Widener student.” Because this program is so vital to your success, attendance will be taken and this expectation will be enforced.
