What was once known as building maintenance or janitorial services has now evolved into a complex field of real estate, capital asset development and management. This new field needs qualified individuals who possess a wide variety of capabilities and knowledge in order to operate a single building or large campus of multiple structures.
The leading professional organization, the International Facility Management Associations (IFMA) has established guidelines for facilities management training, (Standards for Recognized Programs). University College, Widener University in collaboration with IFMA developed a minor or non-credit certificate program that meets the recognized standards of education.
The minor can be utilized as part of the Bachelor of Science in Professional Studies.
