University College is pleased to offer our adult students two professional development programs in a completely online format. Both may be used as either a minor in a degree program at Widener University or as a stand-alone certificate for those who have already earned a degree and seek professional development for career advancement.

The certificate in Applied Supervision is practical and application oriented and designed for individuals who seek the skills required for entry-level supervisory positions. Students should have a minimum of 30 college credits and complete ENGL 101 prior to enrolling. The certificate program introduced in the Fall semester of 2001 has received favorable comments from those enrolled. Courses in the 24 credit curriculum include:

Introduction to Applied Supervision

Legal Aspects of Supervision

Effective Planning and Organizing

Supervising Staff

Effective Leadership Skills

Seminar in Applied Supervision

Industrial/Organizational Psychology.

Adult students and learning

The certificate in Instructional Methods and Technology is also be offered through the on line format. The certificate is designed for individuals who desire an understanding of working with adults in an educational setting, emphasizing adult education in the professional setting, and integrating technology into the classroom. Students must have completed a minimum of 60 college credits prior to enrolling. Courses in the 24 credit curriculum include:

Instructional Design

Teaching Methods for the Adult Learner

Integrating Technology into the Classroom

Asynchronous Learning Experiences

Education Practicum

Industrial/Organizational Psychology

Human Growth and Development II.
