About Me

I received my B.A. in Applied Linguistics in from the State University New York at Buffalo and a Master of Education, Foreign and Second Language Education with a TESOL specialty in 1980 from the same institution. In 1991, I was invited by the US Department of Education as a Title VII research fellow in Bilingual Education, with a Specialty in Second and Foreign language Education also at SUNY Buffalo. I have taught and chaired departments in higher education in both Mexico and the United States including the English Department, and Teacher Education, as well as served as director of various programs. I have taught undergraduate and graduate courses in Educational Leadership, TESOL Education, Spanish, Foreign Languages and Literacy and, teacher education, designing and delivering online, hybrid, and in the classroom.

My work as an educational consultant reached schools servicing language minority students in Texas, Kansas, Mexico, Nicaragua, Philadelphia, and the US Mexican border. I have consulted for corporations as a binational/bicultural workplace trainer for Ford, AC Delco, Chase Bank, Cementos de Mexico, among others. With a lifelong interest in Spanish, I developed a method for speaking without the use of grammar. As a TESOL subject matter expert for Performance Learning Systems, I created an English Language, online program for K-12 teaching professionals. Conference participation has been on various topics of language, culture, and teacher education. In 1989 I found Instituto Lingua Franca, an adult language training facility that services corporate professionals in Chihuahua, Mexico.

I have dedicated my 40+ year career to second language learners (ELL), Spanish speakers and minority students, focusing  on issues that surround their language, academic and lifelong success. I speak fluent Spanish and conversational Arabic and I am a passionate advocate of healthy eating, yoga and meditation.

    Dr. Carol Ann George, director of the Center for Education and associate professor, recently published her book "Sandwich Spanish IS Painless Spanish: No Grammar-No Rules." George is an expert in Spanish language and cultural training and has worked with numerous global corporations in Mexico and the U.S. as a bicultural/bilingual consultant, implementing solutions to bi-national, workplace interaction and language training. Her career as a professor has been in Spanish, teacher and foreign and second language education in the United States and Mexico. Her experiences, passion for the Spanish language, and love for Mexico empowered her to develop the unique approach to learning spoken Spanish without grammar.
