About Me

The Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) identifies field as the signature pedagogy of a social work education. At Widener's Center for Social Work Education, students meet individually with a field director in preparation for entering the field to assess their areas of interest, experience, and their learning and supervision needs. As director of field education, I have the privilege of working with all of our graduate students, some of whom come to the program with years of experience and many who are new to social work. I enjoy maintaining relationships with the rich network of agencies in which our students are placed and keeping up with the many opportunities for learning in the field.

I am also committed to supporting part-time students, many of whom are already working in the field, as they negotiate entering a new field experience and the many challenges of balancing school, work, field, and personal life. I have enjoyed a long affiliation with Widener University and the Center for Social Work Education. I completed undergraduate degrees at Widener in both psychology and social work and went on to earn my MSW degree in 1994.

Since that time, I have worked in many capacities in the field, most extensively in hospice work and in child and adolescent mental health. I currently maintain a small private clinical practice in Media, PA. My areas of specialty include working with adolescents and young adults, families, women in transition, and older adults. My teaching responsibilities at the graduate level include Foundation Practice and Field Liaison, Clinical Social Work Practice, and Clinical Supervision. At the undergraduate level, I teach the senior-level practice sequence (SW 420–421) and serve as the field liaison.

Research Interests

My research interests are currently focused on field education and the ethical decision-making models that field directors use when placing students. I am also investigating the differences in field experiences of online and on-site social work students and field instructors.
