Widener's integrated professional studies program supports students who want to cultivate skills of self-advocacy, independence, and skills and confidence to succeed in a rewarding career.
Students enrolled in the integrated professional studies program will develop these important skills through on-campus coursework, hands-on career opportunities, and campus involvement.
Prospective students will be updated once enrollment reopens.
Why Participate in the Program?
Academic & Skills-Building Programs
The program coordinator will work with students to help choose a program concentration that aligns with their interests and supports their career goals. Students will then participate in various on-campus classes alongside traditional, undergraduate college students.
Students participate in 2-3 on-campus classes each semester
Courses must be 100 or 200-level courses and between 1-3 credits each
Students audit classwork and may have the opportunity to take a course for credit
Students participate in at least three career exploration and development activities that facilitate growth and independence as it relates to employment
Students can earn a certificate of completion after two years in the program
Mentorship by Peers & Expert Faculty
Students will learn alongside full-time, undergraduate students, who will also serve as peer mentors and coaches outside of the classroom. You will also find on-going, personalized support by expert faculty and staff mentors who are dedicated to the success of their students.
You won't find many places that offer the impressive number of opportunities and resources for inspiration, engagement, and support like that of a college campus. Participating students can take full advantage of the abundant campus events, student clubs, and helpful resources available on campus.
This program is open to interested and motivated students who are:
ages 18 and older and have completed high school
have the desire to gain experience on a college campus
have a documented diagnosis of an intellectual difference
able to arrange transportation to and from campus
able to navigate a college campus unsupervised for at least an hour
