From day one, you'll learn from professors who are dedicated to shaping the industry and putting you on the inside track to career success. Our professors will share their close relationships with insiders who lead Philadelphia's sports scene, including the Eagles, Flyers, Phillies, Union, Comcast-Spectacor, and NCAA Athletics. Whether you're inside or outside the classroom, expect to learn from and network with these top leaders. You can then count on them for internship and co-op opportunities that will launch your career. By graduation, you'll be a pro — ready to take any organization to the next level.

The School of Business Administration is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). This professional accreditation places Widener among the top one-third of college business schools in the U.S. and Europe.

Program Options

Widener's management major offers four concentrations - human resources, operations, general, or sport management.

The sport management concentration enables students to develop skills in the sales and marketing of sports teams, leagues, brands and products, as well as the planning and management of events for organizations.

Learning Goals & Objectives


SBA students will demonstrate the knowledge that is appropriate to the business discipline.

a) Core business disciplines – Students will demonstrate proficiency in accounting, business law, economics, finance, information systems, international business, management, marketing, operations, and quantitative analysis.


SBA students will apply leadership skills in the development of business decisions.

a) Collaboration – Through teamwork, students will demonstrate the ability to collaborate with others to accomplish tasks that lead to decisions.

b) Communication of ideas – Students will demonstrate the ability to prepare and deliver business information with regard to audience and setting.

Application of Concepts and Technologies

SBA students will be competent in the application of core business concepts and technologies.

a) Critical thinking – Through course assignments, students will demonstrate the ability to effectively incorporate both qualitative and quantitative methods in the development of business solutions.

b) Technology – Students will use the appropriate technology in the analysis and development of business solutions.

Social Responsibility

SBA students will utilize social responsibility principles in decision making.

a) Diversity and Multicultural Issues - Students recognize the complexity and interconnectedness of diverse or international groups of businesses, people, and societies through participation in exercises designed to showcase these issues.

b) Ethics and Social Awareness Issues - Students will recognize the ethical, social, and environmental impact of business decisions through participation in exercises designed to showcase these issues.

Prepare for rapid career growth by completing two degrees in five years. When you graduate, you’ll receive a bachelor’s degree in business analytics and a master’s degree in one of several graduate programs in the School of Business Administration.

You'll benefit from not only our industry connections, but our location. We're 3 miles from the Philadelphia Union's home turf and 12 miles from the Eagles, Phillies, and Flyers venues in South Philadelphia. And, Widener is the Union soccer team's official university.

That means you'll be able to take advantage of internships or co-ops with the sports organizations that will distinguish your resume and help launch your career.

They ensure our sport management classes are ahead of industry trends and offer exciting jobs upon graduation and internship and co-op opportunities. Outside the Classroom

What happens outside the classroom is just as important as what happens inside the classroom.

Our sport management students often join the Student Sport Network and play on Widener's Division III sports teams.

You'll find them working gamedays for area teams, leading athletics-related community service activities, and bringing industry professionals to campus for the biannual Sport Management Speaker Series. Their dedicated to strengthening their communities and building relationships in the world of sports.


Learn from professors whose leadership, thinking, and research are shaping the sport management field. Some of our faculty are nationally known for their academic work in economics, law, or management. Others are top-ranked officers in professional sport organizations.
