Dr. August-Wilhelm Scheer is one of the most influential scientists and businessmen in the German computer sciences and software industry. ARIS, the business process and IT management method developed by him, is in operation in practically all DAX listed companies, as well as being used internationally. Moreover, from 1975 until 2005 he was director of the Institute for Information Systems (IWi) at Saarland University. His research activities focus on information and Business Process Management in industry, the services sector, and in public administration.
His scientific books on information systems are standard works and have been translated into many languages. His research focuses on information, innovation and business process management.

Scheer is sole shareholder of the Scheer Holding GmbH, located in Saarbrücken, a company network consisting of 10 companies and over 1000 employees, including Scheer GmbH and imc AG. All companies develop standard softwares and offer IT consulting.
In 2014 he founded the non-profit AWS Institute for Digital Products and Processes gGmbH.  From 2007 to 2011 he was president of the inter-trade organization Bitkom e.V. He is independent political advisor on a federal and state level.
