Mechanical and Civil Engineering Experience

Widener University invites you to join our Civil and Mechanical engineering students and faculty to learn about these two major fields of engineering while engaging in fun hands-on activities. Work as a team to solve real-world “Green Engineering Challenges” while learning about Civil and Mechanical Engineering careers. Work in engineering labs and meet engineering faculty and students during the fun activities - all in a half-day program! Open to high school juniors and seniors.

9:00-9:50 Registration/Welcome- Learn how Civil and Mechanical engineers are redesigning the world for a greener tomorrow. Dr. Kamran Fouladi, Chair of ME and Dr. Ronald Mersky, Chair of CE, will show you trailblazing innovations in windmills, smart-bridges, efficient ventilation, flood control and green buildings.
9:50-11:20 Lab experiences: design a windmill to produce electricity- learn about the supporting structure and turbine; make tall buildings better- manage vibration (resonance) and build a cross-laminated timber frame (a renewable alternative to concrete). 

11:20-12:30

Senior Projects Panel: Senior engineering students will present the pioneering projects they are now designing and answer your questions about engineering school.
