Join us for a CEU Event Presented by Dr. Cooper and Professor Myrick, In Honor of Black History Month

Discussion: on the American Son Movie, adapted from the original play by Kerry Washington, on Netflix.

This potentially powerful workshop is perfectly poised to examine the continued oppressive phenomena of Driving While Black (DWB) and the social construction of Black Identity expressed by an African American mother portrayed in film-play.

The Netflix movie tells the story of Kendra Ellis-Connor (Kerry Washington), the mother of a missing teenager, as she struggles to put the pieces together in a South Florida police station, Indiewire, 2020.

Although Professors Myrick & Cooper will be screening portions of the film during the event, it would be good for participants to view the film on Netflix.com prior to attending the workshop. Professors Myrick & Cooper bring a range of diversity themselves between the two of them although both identify as African American males.

You can view the trailer of the film here.
