The PMC Museum brings to life the history of Pennsylvania Military College. Exhibits not only re-create life at PMC, but also tell the stories of the athletic and academic accomplishments of PMC students. As a lasting monument to its cadre of alumni, the PMC Museum also honors the military and civilian achievements of its graduates.
Some of the museum's exhibits are highlighted on these Web pages. Current exhibits feature the legendary Pershing Rifles Drill Team, the renowned PMC Band, and a number of our distinguished alumni. The collection includes an impressive array of uniforms, trophies, memorabilia, and artifacts, as well as special exhibits for athletics, cadet life, and alumni achievements.
Vintage films, photographs, and documents continue to be converted to digitized formats and made accessible to alumni and their descendants, the university, surrounding communities, and visitors and researchers nationwide.
Above all, the museum, in partnership with the Widener University Archives, (located in Widener's Wolfgram Memorial Library) gathers, preserves and protects the wealth of PMC history for all time.
PMC will forever remain a landmark institution with a proud history of an elite Corps of cadets and a tradition of blending military training with academic achievement to build graduates of character, courage, and honor.
Initiated in 1998 by PMC alumni, the PMC Museum received the full support of Widener University's Board of Trustees and administration, including the designation of space in Alumni Auditorium. In turn, the Museum Steering Committee accepted full responsibility for raising all funds needed for renovation and construction; collection and exhibit assembly; and a perpetual endowment fund.
The first funding commitment was a challenge to all PMC alumni from Leslie C. Quick, Jr., Class of 1950, who pledged to personally match the first $250,000 raised. That first critical fundraising goal was met by a 1999 leadership gift campaign and construction of the museum was completed in the year 2000. At the opening of the museum that fall, Leslie C. Quick, Jr., pledged to personally match an additional $100,000.
Every PMC alumnus has the unique opportunity to contribute to this historic museum to guarantee PMC's significant place both in the nation's history of military colleges and in the history of Widener University.
Alumni are invited to participate by giving a cash gift or donating PMC memorabilia to be considered for inclusion in the collection by the PMC Museum Committee.
