Social Work Continuing Education

A Continuing Education Unit, also known as a CEU, is an education course that helps social work professionals remain licensed as well as keep their knowledge current. In the state of PA, all licensed social workers must complete continuing education every 2 years.

In order to renew your social work license in Pennsylvania you must obtain 30 continuing education hours which include: 

• 3 Hours of Ethics Credits
  • This course may be done online, through home study, or in person. 
• 2 Hours of Child Abuse Credits (First-time renewal you will need 3 credits, after the first renewal only 2 credits are needed)
  • This course may be done online or in person.
  • This course must be approved by the PA State Board of Social Workers, Marriage and Family Therapist, and Professional Counselors.

Once you complete the CEU training you will:  

1. Fill out the evaluation.
2. Submit the appropriate payment.
3. After completing steps 1 and 2, you will receive a certificate via email. 

Registration is required for all CEU events, whether one needs CEUs or not.

After selecting the event(s) of your choice, you will see blue buttons with two choices, one to register for a CEU or register to attend w/o CEU. Clicking on “Register Now! (CEU)”, will take you to the registration form where you can complete your registration and payment for the events/workshops you want.

You should receive a confirmation email within 2 business days with instructions for enrolling in the Canvas course through Widener’s Lifelong Learning platform.  Once enrolled, you will access the course and any completed certifications through your account in the Widener Lifelong Learning platform.

CEU events and CEUs are free for current Widener students, faculty, and field instructors. Widener alumni need to pay $10; everyone else, $25. Payment will be collected at the end of the event. 

Yes, non-licensed people can attend the events. We hope to see you there! 

Events and workshops may be added or changed throughout the academic year, so check back often. If an event is cancelled or rescheduled, registrants will be notified via email.
