At many universities, being a student-athlete can limit how you experience the rest of campus. Here, athletics are part of your experience—not something that defines or restricts it. As a varsity athlete, you can still:
In addition to academic, well-being, and career resources available to all students, our athletes have access to student athlete-focused support and workshops hosted at the Health, Unity, and Belonging (H.U.B.). The H.U.B. is a dedicated safe space for student athletes to unwind and recharge. Guided workshop discussions and yoga classes are held to help manage stress, build resilience, plan for life after sports, and stay balanced throughout the season.
Through our partnership, the Widener community can attend games with access to discounted tickets and is invited to be part of the fun on and off the field.
Glad you asked! Get an inside look at our athletic facilities in an episode from our Campus Corner video series.
The Pride Recreation Center is designed to support your routine and help you recharge. Here, you'll find modern fitness equipment and spaces, group exercise classes, and more.

No! In addition to 21 varsity teams, you can join club or intramural sports, or simply attend games and support your classmates. Athletics are part of campus life, so there are multiple ways to participate—on the field or in the stands.
Additionally, the Pride Recreation Center has plenty of opportunities for "informal recreation"—such as checking out sports and game equipment (for free!), attending "open rec" hours in the field house, and more—all allowing you to informally play whenever fits your schedule.
At Widener, there are a few different ways to get involved in sports depending on your interests and commitment level:
Varsity sports are the most competitive and represent Widener in NCAA competition. These teams have structured practices, travel for games, and a higher time commitment.
Club sports are student-led teams that compete against other colleges, but with a more flexible schedule and commitment than varsity athletics.
Intramural sports are the most casual option. They are open to all students and focus on fun, recreation, and playing with friends. No experience needed!
Widener varsity teams compete in Division III (D3), and Widener Men's Rugby club sports team competes in Division II (D2).
As an NCAA Division III school, Widener does not offer athletic scholarships. Financial aid is awarded based on need, not athletic ability.
However, students may be eligible for academic scholarships and other forms of financial aid. We encourage you to connect with the Financial Aid Office early in the application process to explore all available opportunities.

A growing number of Pride athletes are adding leadership and professional development opportunities to their resumes, by attending national conferences and learning experiences hosted by the NCAA.

Matayo McGraw ’27 hopped, stepped, and jumped his way to the title at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championship, besting a field of 20 competitors.

The multi-year partnership between Widener and neighboring Philadelphia Union has found the back of the net, again and again, creating opportunities, experiences, and much more for the university community.
