Sherissa L Barbour The Blacker the Berry, the More Bitter the Bias? | During this presentation, the maternal mortality rates in the United States and the experience of women within the healthcare system will be explored. I will use a survey and literature review to attempt to paint a picture of a woman's pregnancy + labor and delivery experiences within the United States' healthcare system. I will explore the implications for the social work profession. I will also explore methods that can be used to educate clients (patients) and bridge the gap between the expectation of the interactions between healthcare professionals and their patients versus the reality of those interactions. |
Sandra B Good-Gonzales Homelessness in the Older Adult Population and the Accessibility to Affordable Housing | In this presentation, we will look at multiple articles used to conduct this literature review to discover why the elderly population (50+) is increasing in homelessness and what we can do about it. We will discuss the housing affordability crisis, skyrocketing rent, and lower Medicaid reimbursement. We will also look at solutions for these problems. |
Adelaide W Groth-Tuft A Resource Guide For Mothers and Children (0-4) Experiencing Homelessness in Delaware County | The experience of homelessness can create difficulties in hitting developmental, language, social, and emotional milestones in the early years of childhood (0-4). For mothers and children who are homeless in Delaware County, there are resources that exist at the local, state, and federal levels to ensure that these vulnerable children have healthy development and build resilience. A resource guide was created that compiled these programs and other resources available to ensure healthy development was created to help the mothers of these children access these resources as well as equip mothers with support services to help themselves and their child(ren). This resource guide provides resource linkage and connection of the multitude of services these mothers are eligible for as well as provides information about child development and early childhood trauma. |
Kirsten N Ippolite Best Practices for Guardians ad Litem (GAL) of Older Adults | This presentation reflects on the survey responses of Delaware County’s Guardian Ad Litem population for the creation of the Delaware County Elder Task Force’s GAL Handbook. The survey was created to poll what information the attorneys would find most useful to be included in the handbook and in person trainings. This will help inform best practices for the guardians and those involved in the guardianship process for Older Adults in the community. |
Adriana Moreta Older Adults and Their Connections with Family and Friends During Post COVID-19 | Through narrative inquiry and reflexive thematic analysis, this qualitative study examined themes, patterns, and differences of older adults' connections with family and or friends during and after post-Covid-19. This study highlights what older adults felt and struggled with during the Covid-19 pandemic. In-person interviews were conducted in two senior centers better to understand older adults' experiences during the health crisis. |
Meghan Starner This is Not Abbott Elementary: The Intersection of Mental Health Counseling And Elementary School Students | This project aims to understand the impact and effects of mental health on elementary school students and the benefits of implementing mental health counseling in elementary schools. The goal was to highlight the importance of mental health counseling in schools for today's youth. |
Adreana Stevenson No Child Unnoticed: Identification and the Implementation of Prevention Strategies for Adolescents with Suicidal Ideations | This presentation aims to provide parents, teachers, and social service providers with information on assisting youth ages 10 to 18 with suicidal ideations. A reference guide has been developed based on a literature review and data analysis. This guide was designed to provide information on identifying suicidal ideations and implementing effective prevention strategies to prevent suicidal behavior. |
Jasmine V Thomas Literature Review: Mental Health of Incarcerated Individuals | The purpose of this project is to determine how incarceration can impact one’s mental health. Through a literature review, the student seeks to answer the following questions: What are the effects of incarceration on mental health? What are some ways we can improve the mental health of inmates? |
Camille A West Autism Awareness from a Professional and Provider Lens | In this presentation, Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) will be discussed in a multifaceted way. Key points will be shared in relation to supporting individuals and families from interviewing several professionals who have experienced working directly with the population. Additionally, patterns of similarities and differences will be uncovered from those on the spectrum along with the most effective forms of therapy to support ASD. Furthermore, ways to track progress and monitor goals will be examined to gain a better understanding of this line of work. Lastly, through Peer reviewed articles and questioning from interviews conducted, there will be analysis-based findings incorporated in a “Reshaping Biases and Tips & Tricks Fact Sheet” that uncovers some of the greatest challenges when working with this population along with spreading further awareness. |

Skyler B Tomson Assessing the Burnout, Stress, and Trauma Social Workers are Experiencing in the Field (Keynote Presentation) | In this project, it focuses on discussing the daily experiences that DHS City workers go through at the agency. Through a series of methods, which include a Quantitative survey, a self-care evaluation, and the Maslach Burnout Inventory, used to highlight stress, burnout, trauma, and the needs of Child welfare social workers. Included is a comprehensive literature review, which explains previous studies that have been done with addressing this topic. Ultimately, the overreaching goal was to create an opportunity and a safe space for workers to share their experiences and how their work life has affected their overall well-being. |
