Widener University has named Robin Dole, PT, DPT, EdD, PCS, as dean of the School of Human Service Professions and Anne Krouse, Ph.D., MBA, R.N.-BC, as dean of the School of Nursing.
Dole began as dean on July 1 after serving as interim dean since January. Krouse assumed the role of nursing dean on Aug. 13.
“Both Robin and Anne are highly respected among their colleagues and peers,” said Provost Fred Akl. “They have proven to be capable leaders with the skills and dedication needed to advance the School of Human Service Professions and School of Nursing.”
Dean Robin Dole
Dole’s career at Widener began in 1995 as a faculty member in physical therapy. She progressed to the rank of professor and was appointed associate dean and director of the Institute for Physical Therapy Education in 2002.
Her professional accomplishments and scholarly activities in the field of pediatric physical therapy span three decades. She is board certified as a pediatric clinical specialist and licensed to practice physical therapy in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
As dean, Dole will lead a school that encompasses a range of undergraduate and graduate programs in various helping professions. The School of Human Service Professions is home to the Institute for Graduate Clinical Psychology, Center for Education, Center for Human Sexuality Studies, Institute for Physical Therapy Education, Center for Social Work Education, and a newly developed graduate program in Occupational Therapy.
“We have many reasons to be proud in the School of Human Service Professions,” Dole said. “The school provides Widener students with the opportunity to learn from engaged faculty, to develop their skills in our student-run clinics and community service settings, and to make meaningful contributions to their respective fields. I look forward to leading the school as we continue to build on these successes.”
Dole received a bachelor of science degree in physical therapy from Ithaca College, a master of science degree and pediatric physical therapy fellowship from University of Indianapolis, a doctor of education in child and youth studies from Nova Southeastern University, and a post-professional doctor of physical therapy from MGH Institute for Health Professions.
Dean Anne Krouse
Krouse comes to Widener from the University of Delaware School of Nursing where she served as associate dean for education and practice. Entering the role of dean is a return to Widener for Krouse who led a long and distinguished career at the university as a faculty member and administrator from 2000 to 2016.
“I am thrilled to rejoin the Widener community as dean of the School of Nursing,” said Krouse. “During my time at Widener, I experienced firsthand the dedication and excellence of the faculty and staff both in the school of nursing and across the university. I look forward to collaborating with faculty to build on our past achievements and continue to deliver the highest quality nursing education to prepare the next generation of healthcare providers, leaders, and nurse educators.”
Krouse first arrived at Widener in 2000 as a member of the nursing faculty. She served as the university faculty chair from 2009 to 2011 and was awarded the Fitz Dixon Innovation in Teaching award in 2012. In 2014, she developed and served as coordinator of the Executive Nursing Leadership master’s in nursing track. In that same year, Krouse was also named associate provost for Learning Spaces and Strategic Initiatives where she oversaw and supported a number of university initiatives such as high-impact practices and service learning.
In her research, Krouse focuses on leadership in nursing education and practice, and low birthweight infants. She has presented her findings at regional, national and international meetings.
A respected member of the nursing community, Krouse was elected as treasurer at the National League of Nursing (NLN) in 2017 and served as a member of the Public Policy committees of NLN and the Association of Women’s Health Obstetric and Neonatal Nursing to advocate for healthcare and professional priorities.
Krouse received master's and doctoral degrees in nursing from the University of Pennsylvania, a master's of business administration from St. Joseph's University, and a bachelor of science in nursing from Villanova University.
