Did we mention free laundry?

Beginning this academic year, thanks to the work of the Student Government Association (SGA) and many partners in university administration, Widener students will find a number of new initiatives and amenities designed to boost the campus life experience.

Doing laundry is certainly not a favorite pastime for college students. But now it won’t be painful on the pocket. Beginning this semester, laundry is free for all resident students. Washers and dryers in residence halls have been upgraded to facilitate this change.

Listening to feedback from many on campus, and working with Uno’s Pizzeria and Grill, the Providence Avenue restaurant now accepts student meal exchange and Pride Bucks for both lunch and dinner.

And finally, the university has initiated a pilot program to provide Campus Safety shuttle service to the Swarthmore train station, a SEPTA regional line station that provides easy access to Philadelphia and surrounding communities.

Campus Safety shuttles will pick up and drop off students at the shuttle spot next to Old Main at designated times on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

“We are very excited and hopeful that our students will love and take advantage of each new initiative,” said SGA President Miranda Burke ’19. “The main goal of the Student Government Association is to listen to student concerns and advocate for the change they wish to see.”

The three new initiatives are an outgrowth of SGA’s two-year strategic plan, which has several goals, including improving student satisfaction by continually assessing university programs, services, and facilities in the area of student life.

“I have been witness to the passion and dedication that our student leaders have for enhancing Widener,” said Austin Duckett, assistant dean for Student Life and SGA advisor. “I am excited to continue working with them to implement their new strategic plan, further our partnerships with university administration, and strengthen our communication with our current undergraduate student body.”

In an effort to continually improve and build upon the campus experience, SGA welcomes ideas and suggestions from students. Contact any senator, executive board member, or email SGA at widenersga@widener.edu. The SGA Office is located on the ground level of the University Center next to the Office of Student Life.
