The Pennsylvania Department of Education has designated Widener a certified PA CARES campus for the 2026-27 academic year. The designation recognizes the university’s commitment to mental health awareness and suicide prevention initiatives. 

Specifically, the CARES accolade highlights Widener’s ability to:
 
•    Connect: Build strong relationships and open lines of communication.
•    Assess: Identify warning signs and assess the level of risk. 
•    Respond: Take immediate action by offering support and resources. 
•    Encourage: Promote hope, resilience, and professional help. 
•    Support: Provide ongoing care and follow-up to ensure safety and well-being

This is the second consecutive year Widener has been recognized with the designation. The university is one of only 36 Pennsylvania higher education institutions to carry it.
