Internship Program Admissions
Briefly describe in narrative form important information to assist potential applicants in assessing their likely fit with your program. This description must be consistent with the program's policies on intern selection and practicum and academic preparation requirements: |
The Internship Training Program located within Widener University's Institute for Graduate Clinical Psychology is exclusively affiliated with the Widener University Institute for Graduate Clinical Psychology doctoral program; that is, only students who are matriculated as doctoral students in good standing are eligible to participate in the internship program. The mission of the internship program is to provide structured practical learning experiences that support the development of the nine profession-wide competencies (PWCs) in health service psychology, to support the development of breadth of skills and knowledge appropriate for generalist practice in health service psychology, and to provide an arena for the intensive integration of scholarship and practice. Interns complete the internship over the course of two years (their fourth and fifth years of doctoral study). Interns work 3 days per week at their clinical rotation sites and complete classwork, didactics, and group supervision (with university and internship program faculty) 2 days each week. |
Does the program require that applicants have received a minimum number of hours of the following at time of application? If yes, indicate how many: |
- Total Direct Contact Intervention Hours - No
- Total Direct Contact Assessment Hours - No
|
Describe any other required minimum criteria used to screen applicants: |
Students must be in good standing academically and must have satisfied all academic program milestones in order to be eligible to participate in the internship. At the end of the first semester of the third year in the program, each student is reviewed by the internship faculty for admission to the internship program and elevation to doctoral candidacy. Through this comprehensive review process, faculty members review each student’s attainment of minimum levels of achievement across a series of specified experiences, including: grades in all required classes, practicum evaluations, scores on the assessment and intervention data clinic assignments, and demeanor in all relevant professional settings in which the student has functioned while in the program. In addition, faculty consult with the director of practicum training to ensure that all intern candidates have completed a minimum of 1200 hours of practicum clinical experience. |
