The Internship Training Program located within Widener University's Institute for Graduate Clinical Psychology is exclusively affiliated with the Widener University Institute for Graduate Clinical Psychology doctoral program; that is, only students who are matriculated as doctoral students in good standing are eligible to participate in the internship program. The mission of the internship program is to provide structured practical learning experiences that support the development of the nine profession-wide competencies (PWCs) in health service psychology, to support the development of breadth of skills and knowledge appropriate for generalist practice in health service psychology, and to provide an arena for the intensive integration of scholarship and practice. Interns complete the internship over the course of two years (their fourth and fifth years of doctoral study), working 3 days per week at their internship clinical rotations sites while completing classwork/didactics/group supervision with University and Internship Program faculty 2 days each week. |

Doctoral students in Widener's Institute for Graduate Clinical Psychology must be in good standing academically and must have satisfied all program milestones in order to be eligible to participate in the internship match. At the end of the first semester of the third year in the program, each student is reviewed by the core faculty. Faculty members consider grades, practicum evaluations and demeanor in all relevant professional settings in which the student has functioned or is currently functioning while in the program. All doctoral students complete three practicum placements (approximately 600 hours each, for a total of 1800 hours) prior to internship placement. To be eligible for internship placement, students must have completed minimum practicum clinical experiences (i.e., a minimum of six (6) psychological batteries with written reports and two (2) long-term (treatment for at least 6 months) therapy cases. |
