Prior to Widener, I worked for five years in the hotel and lodging industry in various management roles.
As an educator, I believe that it is a teacher's responsibility to provide students exposure to the skills they need to be successful in the tourism and hospitality industry. I believe it is important to use the classroom as a vehicle to help students connect theory to practice. I find that it is most helpful to use examples from my experience in the industry to connect to the course materials. Being able to visualize how the readings in class translate into real world scenarios helps students better understand why and how the material is relevant.
My research interests include implementing diversity education into the classroom to prepare students for the workplace, the role of female faculty members in higher education, and the collegiate experiences of first-generation college students.
