Barbara Patterson Named American Academy of Nursing 2019 Fellow

Barbara Patterson, nursing professor and director of the nursing PhD program, was chosen as an American Academy of Nursing (AAN) 2019 Fellow, a prestigious recognition that honors Dr. Patterson's work to advance the science of nursing and nurse educators. Dr. Patterson will join a class of nurse leaders that represent 38 states and 17 countries.

Graduate Student Presents Paper on Artificial Intelligence

Gary Bennett, a graduate student in the master of science in business process innovation program, presented a paper, "An Examination of the Acceptance of Artificial Intelligence: Exploring Smart Speaker Adoption with the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology" at the Pennsylvania Economic Association meeting in Kutztown, Pennsylvania. The paper is co-authored with Associate Professor Donna McCloskey.

Loyd Bastin Co-Edits Book on Green and Sustainable Chemistry Principles

Widener Professor and Associate Dean of Sciences Loyd Bastin co-edited a book “Integrating Green and Sustainable Chemistry Principles into Education.” The book, published in July 2019, draws on the knowledge and experience of scientists and educators already working on how to encourage green chemistry integration into their teaching, both within and outside of academia. One of the book chapters on promoting political and civic engagement in a non-major sustainable chemistry course was written by Bastin and Chemistry Department Chair Andrea Martin.

Nursing Faculty and Alumna Publish in Nurse Education in Practice Journal

Barbara Patterson, nursing professor and director of the nursing PhD program, along with Widener nursing PhD alumna Brenda Elliott published an article in the journal Nurse Education in Practice about understanding how veterans transfer learning from their military experience to their nursing education and how nursing faculty can best support their academic careers.

Three Business Faculty Win the Excellence in Research Journal Awards

IGI Global announced that Associate Professor Richard Goeke, Associate Professor Kerri Crowne Brannen, and Associate Professor Dennis Laker won the 11th Annual Excellence in Research Journal Awards in the category of library and information science. Their article "The Effect of Education on Information Systems Success: Lessons from Human Resources," published in the Information Resources Management Journal, was recognized as one of 11 journal articles from the 2018 volume year that showcased forward-thinking research and outstanding scholarship.

Interdisciplinary Sexuality Research Collaborative Awarded $25,000 grant from ViiV Healthcare

Widener’s Interdisciplinary Sexuality Research Collaborative (ISRC) has received a $25,000 grant from ViiV Healthcare’s ACCELERATE! Program. The grant will fund a sexual health conference in Mississippi, where the ISRC has been working to develop sexuality education resources and tools for black gay and bisexual men.

Human Sexuality Studies Researcher, Student and Graduate Honored

Tracie Gilbert, a research scientist in the Center for Human Sexuality Studies (CHSS), along with Jayleen Galarza, a CHSS graduate, and Ryan McKee, a current doctoral candidate, were chosen as the 2019 recipients of the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors and Therapists' Schiller Prize. They were recognized at the 2019 annual conference in Philadelphia on June 15.
