Alpha Chi Sigma

Alpha Chi Sigma is a co-ed professional fraternity that works to bind its members with a tie of true and lasting friendship, while striving for the advancement of chemistry both as a science and as a profession, and aid its members in attaining their ambitions as chemists. Widener’s Gamma Omega colony was established in late 2007 and was granted chapter status in May 2012.

Alpha Mu Gamma - International Modern Language Honor Society

Hours of Operation:

Alpha Mu Gamma is the first and largest national collegiate foreign language honor society of the United States to recognize exceptional achievements in all foreign languages.

Alpha Phi Sigma - Criminal Justice Honor Society

Open to:

Undergraduate and graduate criminal justice students

Alpha Phi Sigma recognizes academic achievement of undergraduate and graduate criminal justice students. To apply for membership, undergraduate students must have completed four criminal justice courses and have a minimum GPA of 3.2 on a 4.0 scale, with a minimum GPA of 3.2 in criminal justice courses. Graduate students must also have completed four criminal justice courses (three undergraduate courses can count towards the 4 course minimum) and have a minimum GPA of 3.4.

Alpha Upsilon Alpha

Undergraduate and graduate students in education programs

Alpha Upsilon Alpha, the honor society of the International Literacy Association, recognizes and encourages scholarship, the development of personal and professional leadership, and service to the field of reading at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Members are acknowledged for having excelled in their chosen field of study, and are recognized as professionals committed to the importance of reading and language arts in education.

Beta Aphi Psi - Intl Honor Society for Financial Information Students & Professionals

Open to:

Undergraduate students

Beta Alpha Psi is an international honors organization for accounting, finance, and information systems students and professionals. It provides opportunities for development of technical and professional skills; participation in community service; and interaction among students, faculty, and professionals. Our chapter holds two induction ceremonies a year, and inductees are invited to meet and learn from industry speakers and attend networking events.

Beta Beta Beta - Biological Honors Society

Open to:

Undergraduate students

The Beta Beta Beta Biological Honor Society admits students with an overall GPA of 2.75 or higher and a GPA of 3.0 or higher in biology courses. To join, students must be nominated by the biology faculty, have status as a second semester sophomore, and have made at least one biological research presentation in a public forum. Biology students engaged in collaborative research with faculty members may also apply for research grants through the national Beta Beta Beta organization.

Beta Gamma Sigma is the International Honor Society of AACSB accredited Business Programs Recognizing Business Excellence. Both senior undergraduates and graduate students achieving high academic performance are invited to join Beta Gamma Sigma. There is an annual induction ceremony every spring semester during Honors Week.

Gamma Eta Rho – A National Honor Society in Human Sexuality

Open to:

Graduate students in human sexuality studies program only

The mission of Gamma Eta Rho is to encourage and recognize excellence in intellectual achievement, critical inquiry, and creative thought relating to all aspects of human sexuality. The Society seeks to help students develop meaningful goals for their roles in society; to foster professional relationships and growth; and to advance the fields of human sexuality research, therapy, and education.

Iota Iota Iota - Women & Gender Studies National Honor Society

Open to:

Undergraduate and graduate students

Iota Iota Iota (Triota) is a national honors society that encourages and supports scholarship and excellence in women’s studies. Membership is open to gender & women's studies (GWS) majors or minors and to any undergraduate or graduate student at Widener with a strong interest in GWS. Undergraduates must have achieved third-semester standing with at least 6 hours of GWS courses and a GPA of at least 3.0. Graduates must have a demonstrated record of research or activism in gender-related issues.

Kappa Delta Pi

Open to:

Undergraduate and graduate students in education programs

Widener’s local chapter of Kappa Delta Pi fosters excellence in education and promotes fellowship among those dedicated to teaching. Kappa Delta Pi is an international honors society organization and has more than 1.2 million members.

Lambda Pi Eta - National Communication Honor Society

Open to:

Undergraduate, graduate, and adult & professional studies students

Exemplary communication studies students may join the National Communication Association honor society, Lambda Pi Eta. Lambda Pi Eta is open to undergraduate (full-time and extended learning) students who have completed 60 credits total (cumulative 3.0 GPA) and completed 12 communication studies classes (3.25 GPA). Graduate students may petition to apply upon completion of 12-credits of communication studies-related courses.

Omega Chi Epsilon (OXE) - National Honor Society for Chemical Engineering

Open to:

Undergraduate students

Omega Chi Epsilon is an honor society that recognizes chemical engineering students who have compiled an outstanding undergraduate academic record. It is generally considered to be the top honor society specifically dedicated to chemical engineers.

Phi Alpha Theta - National History Honor Society

Open to:

Undergraduate students

The History Honors Society, Phi Alpha Theta, recognizes outstanding achievement in the field of history. Widener’s chapter, Alpha Eta Mu, was established in 1994 and its members have presented at the organization’s national and regional conferences. Membership is by invitation only and all Widener undergraduates who have taken four history courses are eligible.

Phi Alpha ΦΑ - National Social Work Honor Society

Open to:

Undergraduate and graduate social work students who attained excellence in scholarship

The purpose of Phi Alpha Honor Society is to provide a closer bond among students of social work and promote humanitarian goals and ideas. Phi Alpha fosters high standards of education for social workers and invites into membership those who have attained excellence in scholarship and achievement in social work. Undergraduate and graduate social work students who have completed 9 semester hours of required social work courses or at least 37.5% of the total hours/credits required for the degree, whichever is later achieved, and rank in the top 35% of their class can join.

Phi Lambda Upsilon- Chemistry Honor Society

Open to:

Undergraduate and graduate students

Phi Lambda Upsilon is a nationally recognized honorary chemical society for undergraduate and graduate chemistry, biochemistry and chemical engineering students for the promotion of high scholarship and original investigation in all branches of pure and applied chemistry. Widener junior/senior undergraduates that have excelled in completing 30 hours of coursework in chemistry, biochemistry , or chemical engineering can be nominated.

Pi Sigma Alpha - National Political Science Honor Society

Open to:

Undergraduate students

Pi Sigma Alpha is the national Political Science Honors Society. It is open to political science or international relations majors and minors with a junior or senior status that have achieved academic distinction. The organization is dedicated to raising awareness of issues related to political science. The Upsilon Kappa Chapter at Widener was founded during the 1994-1995 academic year.

Pro Bono National Honor Society

Open to:

Undergraduate and graduate students

The Pro Bono National Honor Society recognizes those undergraduate and graduate students who demonstrate commitment to providing underserved clients and communities with quality healthcare services in their field of study while maintaining the standards and requirements of their curriculums and their professions. The Pro Bono National Honor Society aims to encourage the development of altruism and social responsibility.

Psi Chi – The International Honor Society in Psychology

Open to:

Undergraduate students majoring or minoring in Psychology, graduate students, and faculty members

Psi Chi, the International Honor Society in Psychology, is an organization of professionals, scientists, faculty, students, and alumni whose mission is to recognize and promote excellence in the science and application of psychology.  Undergraduate students are eligible to apply for membership if they are a second-semester sophomore with an established GPA that places then in the top 35% of their class and is at least 3.00 on a 4-point scale.

Sigma Pi Sigma - Physics Honor Society

Open to:

Undergraduate students

Sigma Pi Sigma is the official honors society of the physics profession. Membership is restricted to colleges and universities that offer a strong physics major. At Widener, students who show outstanding scholarship in physics are elected.

Sigma Tau Delta - English Honor Society

Open to:

Undergraduate, graduate, and adult & professional studies students

Sigma Tau Delta is the International English Honor Society. It confers distinction for high achievement in English language and literature in undergraduate, graduate, and professional studies.
