Diversity Activities & Events

Throughout the year Widener has a variety of activities and events that celebrate diverse perspectives, cultures, and values.

Featured Diversity Events on Campus

DiversiTEAs

DiversiTEAs are informal gatherings involving conversations to collect and share information regarding diversity initiatives and suggestions for enhancing DE&I on campus. In the past, DiversiTEAs have covered a range of topics including systemic racism, what individuals can do to bring about change, LGBTQ allyship, and the use of pronouns and why they matter.

LGBTQIA+ Pride Month

Every June, Widener dedicates the month to the voices of the LGBTQIA+ community to celebrate its history and culture. You can celebrate Pride throughout the month of June and all year long by visiting our digital exhibits of the history and evolution of the institution’s LGBTQ+ community.

Annual Commemorations

In addition to Pride, we observe and recognize other celebrations such as Martin Luther King Day, Women’s History Month, and Black History Month. We are also proud to share that as of 2022, we commemorate Juneteenth as a holiday.

Common Ground

Our interconnected world is going through constant and rapid changes. Now more than ever, it's vital to embrace diverse perspectives. At Widener, we create opportunities for students, faculty, and staff to discuss differences in open and respectful ways. Participants are able to share their thoughts about current experiences and issues related to common ground on campus and beyond while listening and learning from the diverse perspectives of others.

Celebrating International Students

Every semester we like to recognize our international students and celebrate campus diversity. One of our biggest international events of the year is Annual International Education Week. The week is jammed packed with restaurant trips, screenings at our film festival, and more events at our We’re All Widener multicultural fair.

Other programs you can participate in include the Global Pride Partners mentor program which connects international students with domestic students and the Friendship Families program to learn more about American culture by interacting more closely with a local family.
