Where’s the Pirate? Or, why I wrote a history of rum with only a few pirates in it

Associate Professor of History Jordan Smith authored this article discussing his work on the history of rum ahead of his forthcoming book, "The Invention of Rum: Creating the Quintessential Atlantic Commodity." Smith touches on pirates and their historical and pop culture connections to rum as well as his regular first year seminar course on Atlantic piracy. This article features original artwork from Widener students Samuel Flood and Tori Socha.
