Clubs & Organizations

The Engineering Geology Club is for students who are fascinated by the geologic environment and the impact of humans on the natural world. Employing a historic geologic perspective, the club studies such topics as minerals, gems, rocks, and earth processes. The club provides opportunities in the field to visit geologic sites such as caverns or fossil digs.

The ENVR Club is an organization striving to promote conservation, make sustainable changes around campus, educate members about the environment and the natural world, and increase environmental advocacy and engagement on Widener’s campus and the surrounding Chester area. The club provides a space for all majors who want to learn sustainable habits and make positive changes to the environment. It will allot students time and opportunities to go outside, enjoy nature, and destress from daily, hectic class schedules. Members are encouraged to participate in all events, for example nature walks, community clean-ups and service projects, educational field trips, and social mixers.

The Equity in Computing Club at widener helps connect and gather our marginalized students in tech. A club where we secure and build social connections and provide opportunities for our members. Club members participate in monthly meetings and work together on various activities and social projects. 

Widener's newest program, Esports is a growing sport both within the University and nationwide.

Field hockey has emerged as one of the best programs in the MAC Commonwealth and consistently ranked towards the top of the NFHCA Academic Awards.

Widener football has won a record 20 MAC Championships, the 1977 and 1981 National Championships, and is one of four programs in NCAA Division III history with 700 or more wins.

The French Club brings together all students with an interest in French through a variety of social and cultural activities. We connect with the francophone community in our region to provide unique opportunities for students to use French beyond the classroom.

The mission of Gamma Eta Rho is to encourage and recognize excellence in intellectual achievement, critical inquiry, and creative thought relating to all aspects of human sexuality. The Society seeks to help students develop meaningful goals for their roles in society; to foster professional relationships and growth; and to advance the fields of human sexuality research, therapy, and education.

The Gospel Choir gives several musical performances throughout the year both on and off campus, including performances at the Martin Luther King Memorial Service and Jesse Anderson Awards Dinner at Widener, and songfests with other local universities and colleges. Students receive academic credit for participation. The group rehearses weekly and offers at least one concert a semester for both the university and local community.

The HCM Alumni Association organizes events and activities to accomplish the following objectives: (1) To foster community building and networking. (2) To highlight the achievements of HCM alumni regionally, nationally, and globally. (3) To support and engage current students and to promote the health care management program as a leader in health care management education. (4) To serve as a resource and hub of expertise for healthcare professionals.

The Higher Education Student Association (HESA) is a graduate student organization that supports master and doctoral students in the higher education programs at Widener. Led by students, HESA offers professional, academic, and social programming throughout the year. From happy hours to guest speakers, HESA enriches the student experience and offers resources beyond the classroom.

Hillel’s purpose is to serve the Jewish community at Widener by fostering a safe space to practice religious beliefs while also creating a social, cultural, and educational space on campus. Students organize events on campus, while also attending events in the nearby Swarthmore area.

The Human Sexuality Education Student Organization seeks to engage and support CHSS students throughout their time in the program through social events, networking opportunities, and information sessions. HSEDSO hosts events such as Sex Soirée (end of year celebration), HSED Talks (sexuality-related talks hosted at Widener), and the AASECT information session.

The Student Forum (SF) is the student self-government organization in the Institute for Graduate Clinical Psychology . The SF provides a voice for the student body and a means for communication between students, faculty ,and administration. SF’s goal is to enhance students’ education, professional, cultural, and social development by sustaining a supportive academic community.

The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) is a professional society that covers nearly every field of electrical engineering. This society publishes transactions, journals, and magazines, and also sets standards for telecommunication products and computer systems. Our students benefit by being exposed to the latest research, which augments their technical knowledge. The IEEE also provides career opportunities for our students.

Interfraternity Council is the governing council of Widener fraternity chapters. IFC works to foster the ideals of their respective organizations while adhering to the standards set forth by the Fraternity & Sorority Life community nationwide. IFC expects chapter and council development in academics, leadership, culture, and service.

The International Council of Nurses (ICN) is a federation of more than 130 national nurses associations (NNAs), representing the more than 20 million nurses worldwide. Founded in 1899, ICN is the world’s first and widest reaching international organization for health professionals. Operated by nurses and leading nurses internationally, ICN works to ensure quality nursing care for all, sound health policies globally, the advancement of nursing knowledge, and the presence worldwide of a respected nursing profession and a competent and satisfied nursing workforce.

InterVarsity's mission is to unite a multi-ethnic community that follow Jesus's mission to love and serve each other though helping the campus and local community become world changers. InterVarsity holds weekly worship encouraging its members to practice their faith while meeting others who share their same passion.

Iota Iota Iota (Triota) is a national honors society that encourages and supports scholarship and excellence in women’s studies. Membership is open to gender & women's studies (GWS) majors or minors and to any undergraduate or graduate student at Widener with a strong interest in GWS. Undergraduates must have achieved third-semester standing with at least 6 hours of GWS courses and a GPA of at least 3.0. Graduates must have a demonstrated record of research or activism in gender-related issues.

Led by internationally recognized jazz artist John Vanore, the Jazz Ensemble is built on the model of the contemporary jazz orchestra. The repertoire is based on compositions from the libraries of Thad Jones, Woody Herman, Maynard Ferguson, Oliver Nelson, Vanore, and others. Improvisation workshops and use of the recording studio round out the Jazz Ensemble experience. The group rehearses weekly and offers concerts for both the university and local community.
